Simple falling or spinning movement caused by gravity attracts me. It is beautiful. When I carefully observe Nature, it seems even complicated phenomena are derived from this simple movement. I think it is the essence of every phenomenon including human emotion . In creating my pieces I carry out many experiments in my tiny atelier. I assemble frames, gears, drive systems, and so on. They become like instruments for physical experiments as well as works of Art. When I really concentrate on them , I am sometimes overcome by their beauty. I felt like a laboratory of gravity existed in my body through my long experience in physical expression as a dancer (Karas 1987~2007). When you solely concentrate on your physicality, you are very conscious of the gravity on your body, resulting in very beautiful movements. These natural or mysterious movements caused by gravity have become the theme of my creation. Light is a very important element in most of my pieces. It can go through transparent and translucent materials, reflect, emphasize strong edges, or blur with scattering (diffused reflections)......... Various rotational accelerations create complicated rhythms from the light with a great variety of colors and shapes. It can be possible to express even complicated rhythms of life with the combination of simple rotary motion and a flickering of light. These rhythms resonate with rhythms of human physiology and perception. They help me to observe otherwise invisible rules of the Nature and the universe. I try to create pieces that inspire a sense of peace and tranquility.

重力による単純な落下や回転運動に心惹かれます。注意深く自然を観察した時どのような複雑な現象もこの運動に帰している気がするのです。それは人の心の動きにも深く関わっているように思えます。 小さなアトリエで様々な実験を繰り返します。フレームを組み上げ、ギアをセットし駆動部を仕込こみます。それは時にまるでアートというより物理の実験装置のような形にもなります。 集中した精神状態にいるとそのような現象の中にとても美しい瞬間を発見する事があります。 私は長くダンスという身体表現を経験する中で ( Karas 1987~2007) 常に重力の実験室を体の中に感じてきました。あらゆる思惑を排除して意識を自らの体に集中します。精神を高めると空虚な体に重力がかかっているのを感じる事が出来ます。その様な状態において人はとても美しい動きを生み出す事ができます。この重力が起こす自然（あるいは不思議）な動きとその精神的な作用をテーマにして私は制作活動に取り組んでいます。 私の作品の多くにとって光は重要な要素です。 一瞬にして消え続ける美しい光。あるいは一定の軌道を動き続ける多様な光。光は透明な物体を透過するものであり、反射するものであり、強烈なエッジで存在を強調するものであり、また散乱して存在を曖昧にするものであり…無限の運動の集積のようです。 様々な加速度が光によって実に複雑なリズムの色や形を生み出します。単純な回転運動と単純な明滅を組み合わせて複雑な生命のリズムを表現する事も可能です。 動きと光のコンビネーション、それらが人の体のリズムと共鳴して、宇宙の様々な現象に思いを馳せるような静かな時間を提示することができればと思っております。
